How it works
Individual 50-minute lessons by video call, on a fixed day and time. In our first conversation we settle on your goal and where to start. Lessons can be held in English or Portuguese.
Whether it is speaking, passing the JLPT, reading in the original, or simply understanding what you watch: being one to one, the pace and the material are yours.
- First lesson, R$ 90 (Brazilian reais)
- After that, a monthly package of R$ 320 — four 50-minute lessons
- Paid in advance
Reading Japanese texts
If you already read, a lesson can be given over to working through a real text in the original — literary or philosophical. We choose what to read together, and the reading happens in the session, line by line, at your pace: no homework, no obligation to reach the end.
I translate Nishida Kitarō from Japanese into Portuguese — the translations are here — and it is that slow, literal reading that I bring to the lesson.
Common questions
Do I need to know any Japanese already?
No. I teach everyone from those who have never seen a hiragana to those who already read and want to go further.
What language are the lessons in?
English or Portuguese, whichever you prefer, with Japanese coming in as your level allows.
What if I have to miss a lesson?
Lessons rescheduled at least 24 hours in advance are made up within the same month.
Can I book single lessons only?
The first one is a single lesson. After that I work in monthly packages: progress depends on regularity, and a fixed day and time is what protects it.
How does payment work?
Each month’s package is paid in advance. If you are outside Brazil, write and we will settle the method that works for both of us.
Which time zone are you in?
I am based in Brazil (UTC−3). Write with the times that suit you and I will tell you what I can do.
